Not the best written free pattern. “With smallest needles” followed by “change to smaller needles” and three different needle options … US 3, US 4 and US 6 … it was a bit of a crap shoot what they meant. I ended up doing the sweater (ribbing and all) in US 4. We’ll see if I actually knit to gauge.

Many thanks to reddit user badmonkey247 (maybe the same person on Ravelry?) for this explanation of the yoke and neck shaping directions:

badmonkey247
repeat those two rows until the yoke measures 2.5 inches. When the yoke is 2.5 inches, you’ll do the row that tells you to move 4 stitches from each end onto stitch holders. That is the only time you will put any stitches onto the holders. You will ignore those stitches and their holders for awhile after that.

So, on the row after you put the stitches onto the holders, you will continue in stockinette (knitting one row and purling the next). Every time you get to a knit row, do your decrease at each end.

Then you’ll purl a row with no decreases.

Repeat that until you’ve done those two rows a total of 13 times (the time it was written out for you to do, plus the instructions to repeat them 12 MORE times. So that’s 26 rows altogether in that section of the pattern, from start to finish, including the rows it took you to get the fabric to measure 2.5 inches.

Neck shaping instructions were very confusing. I ended up with way more than 43 stitches on the needle.

So, the neck and button bands were a really quick knit. The yoke instructions are a nightmare. Had to do some duplicate stitching to hide some holes.

I took several weeks off from knitting. I think this project is doable in under a month.

Seamed everything with a mattress stitch. Looks really good.

Lots of ends to weave in though. Blech!
