Notes

7/27/13 Finally photos! Kinda been gloomy around here lately so it was still kind of a grey day. But the colors look pretty much close to actual.
7/21/13. I finally got around to darning in all those damn ends. It was over tedious. I do recomend actually gasp tying new strands together with knots to avoid extra ends from when you run out of ysrn (I do the yo, pull through loops, yo with new strand to finish the dtich method.) I also added a mobile shot of the bedspread sitting in my queen bed. The lighting is terrible and its rainy out so maybe nwxt weekend I can do some official shots finally.

6/15/13. Well the project has been done but all the ends need weaving in still. Have done a good deal of them but i became frustrated and put it aside for a bit to work on a bobble blanket for an expecting friend. I still need to take nice pictures too. Today would have been perfect.
So I want to mention a few things about this monster in case anyone wants to attempt it.
No I did not measure out each round like I wanted to but the first color I used only about 1/4 of a skein and about 1/2 a skein of the second color. I reused those colors in the last row.
On the last round I was halfway through the last edge when I realized I was still doing grannys when I should have been doing scallops. I really wanted those so…rippit. The yarn ripped from the whole row only just finished one edge of scallops. That is how much yarn the last round used. (Luckly, I overestimated when I had to buy more yarn and had plenty left over.)
I also want to mention that I wasn’t really happy with my color choices for the Orange and Red-Orange colors. Jaffa was way to bright and Shrimp was just a non-bright version of it. In artificial light the colors look the same, only in natural light can you see a difference.
Also about my color choices. I didn’t really like the Green colorway. And I personally didn’t want a whole lot of pinky pinks or real red since this is for my daughters room and shes got lots of pink already.
How I did my rounds:

  1. 4 plum
  2. 3 plum 1 magenta
  3. 2 plum 1 magenta 1 wisteria
  4. 1 plum 2 magenta 1 wisteria
  5. 3 magenta 1 wisteria
  6. 2 magenta 1 wisteria 1 cloud blue
  7. 1 magenta 2 wisteria 1 cloud blue
  8. 3 wisteria 1 cloud blue
  9. 2 wisteria 1 cloud blue 1 aster
  10. 1 wisteria 2 cloud blue 1 aster

And just repeated the 1,1,1,1,2,3,2,1 pattern with each color ending on:

  • 1 raspberry,2 plum, 1 magenta

The size: Haven’t officially measure yet but it hangs just over my queen bed. And is really heavy.

6/5/13. Nearly finished. Three more massive rounds to go. Then to weave in the new ends since I got most of them while I waited for my yarn to come in. Ran short of Sunshine 6 dc short of finishing the color…. seriously? After ends I really need to get good pictures on a sunny day. These colors are just amazing. my cellphone shots just don’t do them justice. I would be willing to sell this for the right price. I also need to get measurements.. its just too large to do much with cirrently.

5/21/13. Had to order a few more skeins of yarn. Apparently didn’t guesstimate the amount I’d need correctly. Have tons of blues left over and ran out of oranges. At round 30 I’m unsure of the total size as we moved and I misplaced my measuring tape but it just covers the top of my queen bed.

5/8/13 5 rounds completed. Measures about 10”x10”. Decided not to measure out each round of yarn. Just guessing after all. Average about 5 inches (over estimating) of yarn for each DC and 1 for each Ch in a round and pulling out that much yarn from the skein before adding new colors.

5/6/13 Yarn is here! Starting this massive project. I made a spread aheet already for my yarn color changes so I can acheive the full size comforter I am aiming for. 44 rounds. I am doing this the hard way to and will be measuring approx how much yarn for each round instead of using 3 skiens of one color st once and guessing wrongeach round with pre-cutting.

4/25/13 All my yarn is ordered, so excited. Making this as an afghan for my Little Star. Ordered Stylecraft Special Dk in 14 colors from Deramores (i know only 14… but i wanted to keep it reasonable) I did really love the group pack of the 17 popular colors known as the “Lucy” pack as made popular by Lucy from attic 24. They just lacked the…uh…chromatic-ness(?) yeah, just made that up, of the colors I wanted. Truly I got the itch to do a chromatic blanket when my mom gave me a scrub top with lots of pretty little star bursts in beautiful variegated colors all over it. After lots of research and oogling I felt that the Stylecraft should work best even tho I only have online colors to compare. Plus its cheaper than yarn around here I could just pick up at the store, Deramores is tax free and free shipping after $50. So I did end up saving in the long run. But I probably bought more than I needed because Id rather have left overs and make something with the leftovers than not enough for my main project. Getting ancy for my shipment to come :D
