As I worked this piece, thoughts kept returning to the past and visits to my paternal grandmother in the early ’50s. She was a master thread crocheter whose work was on display throughout the house in the form of doilies, tablecloths, pillow covers and other thread masterpieces. She probably worked a sampler just like this at some point, so history has repeated itself … from grandmother to granddaughter many years later.
