Paint an inch thick

Notes

22mm needles.

Corriedale roving blanket, loosely based on the 10st blanket pattern. I haven’t seen that pattern and I was without access to the internet when I decided to make this, so I just winged it. Which would be why I started with a short row triangle….

Garter stitch. Instead of turning the blanket every row, I worked backwards to change direction (purling back from the front). I wrapped each slipped stitch when I “turned” so each stitch on the corners was wrapped 2x, once on each half of the corner. There was no need to knit the wraps.

Weight differences in the yarn are pretty noticeable in the different widths but I think that will become less noticeable if I have a chance to block it properly.

I’ve wanted to knit a roving blanket for a while and being stuck with no way to leave the house and with no electricity or running water for over a week seemed the perfect opportunity. I used fiber I’d dyed that was in my stash and frogged some roving scarves I’d made and used those doubled since I’d attenuated them a little bit and they were no longer a comparable weight. Ran out of dyed roving and finished with undyed.

Slip stitched around the edge once to give it a little more substance.

It’s very warm and quite heavy since it’s so thick. It’s about 15in thick when folded up, and the fabric is about an inch thick when laid out flat. Unblocked size is 54in square.
