My swap item for the 2013 October Ornament Mini Swap in the Itty Bitty Knits group.

This sure was a lot of fun!

When I discovered my SP had a fondness for nesting dolls, I worked to modify the nesting dolls pattern from Itty-Bitty Toys book to work as an ornament. Originally, it was slated to simply be the tiny doll on a loop. But after knitting the tiny doll, I thought about what I could do to make the small doll work, too -- especially without her bottom falling off. My DW had the great idea to hinge the two pieces together in the back and create button closure in the front. I like the way it turned out.

The most interesting departure my project took from the pattern was the fact that my small doll’s bottom flares instead of is a bowl. I don’t know why that happened. It’s probably something to do with how I whip-stitched it at the end, but I’m not sure. The tiny doll still fits inside, and the flare kinda looks like legs, maybe. All in all, I’m pleased.

Moving down to smaller yarn and smaller needles made the project more appropriate for ornament-size, but it also made the project a little more difficult to knit -- especially the finishing work. I think I spent more time finishing the project than I did knitting it!

Fun, fun, fun! I’d definitely do this project again, and I’ll definitely participate in more IBK swaps as they come up.
