I only need a double-layer hat a few days a year, normally, but not having one this winter has been brutal! Stupid polar vortex.
The third photo (of the hat, inside-out) is the most accurate, color-wise. Of course, this is Malabrigo so it’s not like dye lots mean anything… ;)
To get a liner, I did a provisional cast-on at the beginning, then knitted the hat down from there using essentially the same pattern.
The pattern: Easy to follow! Nicely done. I improvised the lining, so no review there.
The yarn: SO SOFT. Not splitty. Didn’t have any dye run when I blocked it, either. I am looking forward to using up my other skeins and getting a few more!
January 16, 2014: Off the needles! Blocking! Because the pattern scrunches up the fabric so much vertically (and a bit horizontally), I should have begun the lining decreases earlier. Perhaps after 20 rows of stockinette, instead of eyeballing it and getting 26, and then I wouldn’t have needed those last few yards from another skein. It fits well enough, though! And I do have enough fabric to pull it inside-out, if I really wanted to. And didn’t mind the lumpy.
January 11, 2014: Finished the Butterfly pattern! Now to unzip the provisional cast-on and knit the hat again, without floats, to line the inside.
I picked up the stitches, but they’re all twisted and I didn’t notice until I finished the first row. This is fine; I’ve knit an extra inch to act as a band in stockinette so that it looks like the twisted stitches have a purpose. I didn’t do the ribbing at the beginning anyway.
