This blanket began as the sampler afghan in the book but after doing the “rows” and the “zig-zag” pattern I decided to make my own pattern from the stitches in the book.

I calculated how many stitches were required for each pattern, how many stitches wide the blanket was and determined which patterns I could use to fill in a window pane. The patterns I used in this blanket were

• Rows (only at the bottom edge of the blanket
• Zig-Zag (outer window pane)
• Squares & Crosses
• My variation of Native American Geometric Bands & Trees
• Plain Filet Mesh
