10 APR
My gauge is slightly out: 13.5sts per 4 inches. Hence I am knitting the medium, hoping to attain something in between small and medium. He doesn’t want it too fitted.
Finished the body piece having used up four balls of wool.
now for the sleeves using 6mm dpns, yek!.
APR 16
Sheesh, I am just finishing the first sleeve which took 1.5 balls. I have 4 balls left for the other sleeve and the shoulder and button band! Yikes!
APR 18
Using the yarn up very quickly! I hope this doesn’t end up too big!
Apr 20
Finished sleeves (measuring 19.5 inches, which is actually for the large size) and now up to Yoke Shaping Set Up Row at bottom of page 108.
I just can’t see how I am going to join the sleeve to the rest? I think I need to go to bed!
APR 21
IT ALL LOOKS CLEARER IN THE LIGHT OF DAY!
okay, it was midnight when my brain freezed.
I was stuck wondering how to add the sleeves to the body. I just slid the other end of the circulars through the sleeve stitches (except for the underarm stitches) bit by bit, and started knitting them (from the first stitch after the underarm stitches.) It worked, phew. I took a close up photo in case there is anyone else wondering.
My 4th photo up shows what it looks like after the Yoke Shaping set up row, with the sleeves now on the needles ( underarm stitches held on waste yarn to graft later.)
21 APR
Grr, gonna cast on my Agnes, because dear husband was a meanie this morning and I don’t feel like knitting for him! Didn’t think the Sweater curse worked on 9 year marriages…

MAY 19
Am on a silent meditation retreat. Great! I can knit!
I found it VERY handy to have marked the centre of the back stitches right at the start!
Got a tad confused when knitting the back saddle for the right shoulder. When it says knit to last sleeve stitch it means of course, of the RIGHT sleeve. Just in case you’re tempted to knit right across to the last sleeve stitch on the left sleeve, like I did.

MAY 20
Almost there: Tried it on the man, it fits like a dream!
Now for the button band/collar!

MAY 22
I’m not sure what happened, but the kitchener join at the saddle shoulder kinda messed up. Think I better re-do it…grrrr.

AUG 10
I can’t believe this is still going! Onto the buttonhole spacing. Doing 31 stitches in between each button hole so that the fifth button is at 138 stitches and just at the start of the increases.

SEP 2
Still going…but determined to get this done today!
I have only done one (slightly longer) pocket…will see what that looks like. Crossing my fingers the button band/collar fits on!

I have washed and c\blocked before sewing on the button band, and even sewn them on first with a contrast colour (in photo) to help with the seaming.

SEP 5
Having finishing dramas!
The button band collar section didn’t fit perfectly onto the edge of the cardigan, so I had to bluff my way a bit, and there is a bit of gathering under the cowl collar. Hidden so I think i may get away with that!
However!
The man tried it on, and the bloody sleeves are too long! Sorry for swearing but, geez, i just need to get this one out of my life and onto his back!!
So…pulling out a couple of inches from the ends of the sleeves! yep!and probably that means pulling out more and starting the garter end bit further up. That would be the professional thing to do right!! we will see…in the morning when things seem clearer!
Also, have failed to get the buttons sewn onto the right spot..again, tomorrow!

ripped back sleeves to 8 rows back from garter start.

SEP 16
FINISHED! THANK HEAVENS! Looks great. Skipped the pockets. Colour is lovely, roomy fit (he’s wearing a jumper underneath in the photos.

Note: considered changing the cuff and hem to double ribbing like in Jared Flood’s Big Blue

ordered yarn from MacDirect: they have some of the few remaiinning balls of this discontinued yarn, What a shame; it’s a gorgeous yarn.
Considered changing sleeves to a rib??
