AUG 2
Using Knit Picks Harmony Wood circulars so the yarn grips a bit, and the sharper points can deal with the M1s better than the addi turbos, which were a nightmare.
Have fourteen rows between the purl ridges.
AUG 7
I have decided to increase the gap between the purl ridges by two rows every time.
A note about this colour! It is captivating! So spicy, like a powdery mound of spice on a Rajasthani rooftop under the hot sun!
A note about this pattern: it will suit me ole mum who’s turning 80 but is really a very funky woman who loves simplicity with a bit of pizazz (ie, this pattern in this yarn!) She is a Leo after all!
13 AUG
Finished in the nick of time.
I forgot the second skein when we went to Sydney for the 80th party, so had to be content to make do with 1 skein.
I ran out of wool about 20 stitches before the end, so tinked a bit.
MODS:
Ended up with about 5 rows of garter stitch.
I added a ridge at 12th, 14th, 16th, 18th, 20th, 22nd, and 22nd rows. (ie. I repeated the last section to conserve wool for the garter row edge)
Ran out of time to block, so leaving that job for my mum!
Presented fifteen minutes before being taken to her 80th birthday party…phew!
She loved it!! The colour (most accurate in the first two pics, though it changes with the light) is so enlivening! I love this yarn! I love this pattern! So easy and effective!
SEP 2012
Mum returned the shawl and asked if I would make it bigger. So I am back to knitting with the second skein after all!
OCT 2012
Finished the bigger shawl, using up all the second skein. It now measures 165cm on the long edge.
The first four photos are the latest photos with the larger shawl.
