Notes

I am starting the sweater using Soulemama’s notes for size 5. I totally am winging what I’m doing because I’ve never knit a garment before so wish me luck. I also prefer stockinette over garter so I am switching those.

16 Jul - I started the sleeves. After much deliberation I decided just to cast on 7 at one end to make it 42 sts. I put markers for fronts, back and sleeves so I can work around to other sleeve and then join the body once second sleeve is done. I want the sleeves to be like cap sleeves but not too short so haven’t decided how long I will make them. I hope it turns out. The Gull pattern is beautiful once you concentrate and stop dropping stitches!

Update - Had to frog the lace stitches as I need to continue across the whole body first before dividing for the sleeves.
Notes:
Knit yoke to 184 sts.
Knit gull pattern until whole thing reaches 5”
Then divide for sleeves (35 sts), back 42 sts, fronts 36sts.
Knit from left front (36 sts - 8 border sts and 4 lace repeats) to sleeve and put sleeve on waste yarn.
Cast on 7 sts for underarm. Knit back piece and put right sleeve on waste yarn. Cast on another 7 sts for underarm. Knit right front and keep knitting body til it reaches about 16” or desired length and knit border (8 row of stockinette).

Phew…..

Woo hoo I finished. I weaved in the ends and tried it on her. I realised halfway through that I made the border too wide, somehow I made it 8 on either side instead of 4. The sleeves were set back a bit because I should have made the back 49sts where it was only 42. It would have given her a bit more room as it sits snuggly across the back. This meant the sleeves were set back a little as well. I kinda winged it on the sleeves and used dpns so no seams. I picked up 14 sts under the sleeve so it would fit and it’s a snug fit there too. Next time I’ll make some of these adjustments and use a chunkier yarn. I know this was prob an 8ply though but it felt like it was 4ply. Hmmmm.

I have dyed the yarn using Rit Dye in Mauve. It is soo pretty. I love the way the colour has come out. After blocking it also fits my now 4yr old perfectly. I love it.
