2/23: It’s finally finished!! There was only 65 stitches cast-on, so the blocked dimensions are 10.5” x 47” or so. I’m glad I stuck with it because it looks so nice after it is blocked…but I didn’t think it was going to take me almost a month to knit it though!

1/26: I know it’s only January and it says “spring” cowl, but I’m making this for my friend who lives in Georgia. Since it doesn’t get too cold there during the winter, I thought this would be a good weight. Her birthday is February 23rd, so she’ll be able to wear it enough before it starts to get too warm.

For this cowl I’m using a single strand of sock weight yarn instead of double stranding a lace weight yarn. I decided to only cast-on 65 stitches so I have enough yarn to give it a good length.

I’ve been working on it for one day and it’s already been giving me trouble! To start off, this is my first attempt at provisional cast-on…are they always such a pain?? I tried an open cast-on from my Vogue Knitting book, but it looked terrible. So I started over with a crochet chain. Then, a few rows in, my stitches just looked sloppy and I wasn’t pleased with it. So I started over again, this time with a size 5 needle and it looks much better.

I hope these are the last of my frustrations with this thing…sounds like people are very pleased with the cowl once it is finished though.
