Notes

I’ve been enviously watching Caitirin work on her afghan and so have begun working on my own.

I absolutely love the Patons SWS yarn, it’s a bit expensive, but I think it will make a fabulous throw.

06Nov08: 10 squares done using Natural Navy.

07Nov08: Made 10 more squares using Natural Earth, minus the black edging while gaming. Seemed to have used less yarn for these 10.

16Nov08: Finished the black edging on the last 10 squares I made and made 4 more minus edging.

21Nov08: Finished 10 more squares using Natural Garden!

1Dec08: Finished 20 squares over the holiday weekend. 10 with Natural Russet and 10 with Natural Denim. Almost didn’t have enough Natural Denim to make the 10th square!

28Jul09: Finally getting back to this project. I’ve finished 10 squares in Natural Plum. It’s interesting revisiting this project after so long. I’ve definitely improved in my crocheting. My tension is slightly looser now, but I think it’ll be ok in the end. My bigger concern is that I didn’t really know what I was doing before and I have a feeling that I’m going to have a different number of stitches that I’ll be trying to match up when I put this all together. It’ll all work out.

25Aug09: I finished 10 squares in Natural Blue. These definitely go quickly if I just sit down and work on them. More often than not I carry them around in my craft bag without touching them. I just need to sit down and get them all done and be done with this project! I think it’ll be awesome when it is finished.

27Aug09: Finished 10 squares in Natural Violet (The halfway point has been reached!) and 10 squares in Natural Russet. I forgot how much I like the Natural Russet colorway. I finished off another skein of Natural Coal. It also appears that I’m missing a skein of Natural Coal, so I’m going to have to go digging around in my stash for it.

I’m also starting to think about what I want to do for the edging. I think I definitely want to use a solid color for each stripe. I’m uncertain how many stripes I want to do. Maybe Indigo, Moss, Natural, and Raisin? Not necessarily in that order. I might have to wait until the whole afghan is laid out and see what jumps out at me.

28Aug09: Finished 10 more in Natural Plum! Have made some decisions about how it is going together. I am going to do 12 x 14 squares with a 4 color border. Which means I need 168 squares. When I finish all the yarn I have, I’ll have 160. I think what I’ll do then is 2 squares (1 of pattern A and 1 of pattern B) per border color. I think the border order will be Natural, Moss, Indigo, Raisin. I need to find somewhere to sell me those colors! And I need to figure out how much I need of each.

04Sept09: I finished 10 more in Natural Violet. And I have ordered all of the yarn I need. So, I just need to finish up the rest of the squares while I’m waiting for the yarn to come in and I’ll be almost done! :) I might actually finish this within a year of starting it. ;)

05Sept09: Finished 10 more Natural Navy Squares.

06Sept09: Finished 10 more Natural Garden Squares.

07Sept09: Finished 10 more Natural Blue Squares.

15Sept09: Finished 10 more Natural Denim and 10 more Natural Earth squares. My yarn order came in today, so I made two each (one of each pattern) of Natural Natural, Natural Moss, Natural Indigo and Natural Raisin. So I am all done my squares! 168 squares finished. Now I just need to lay them all out and decide on what order they are going in, then I’ll sc them together and add the border.

20Sept09: Kurt helped me lay out the squares in a pleasing order. So now I just need to put them all together and put the border on! Which will hopefully happen next weekend.

28Dec09: Finally starting to put these squares together! Three rows so far. This takes entirely far more time than it should. It’s because they are little 3” squares. 12” squares are much faster to put together.

22Sept12: Finally all together! Just the border left. Will I finish it before this project is 4 years old?!? Considering it took me three years to put all of the squares together? One never knows.

25Sept12: FINALLY FINISHED!!! Only added three border rows, as I just barely made it through those three rows with the Coal I had remaining. But, it is done! Done! Done! And it is heavy and warm and fabulous. :)
