My proudest achievement to date! This is actually the second dress I crocheted once my husband and I got engaged. The first was from a 1970’s magazine called Spinnovations; I was never all that happy with the pattern, though, because it required sewing an underdress into it, and I hated sewing. So when I got the February 1999 issue of Magic Crochet and saw the gorgeous wedding dress pattern in it, I said to myself, “Hey, I have 6 months before the wedding -- I can do this!” And I did, finishing it with about a month to spare. I then made crocheted bookmarks for wedding favors; then I made the gloves (figuring that I could get married without gloves, but if I didn’t make favors for every guest I couldn’t use them at all). I finished the gloves about two or three days before the wedding.

This dress was done all in motifs, join-as-you-go. I had to completely rip the waistline and add to the bodice when I tried it on and found that it was way too small; that probably added about two weeks to the project. (I did very little else besides eat, sleep, work, and crochet during that time!) The finished dress is lacy, so I bought a plain white satin dress to go under it.

I adapted the glove pattern a little by making it fingerless, figuring that this would make it easier to deal with rings (which it did).

9/21/08 - I never took really good pictures of the gloves or the headpiece at the time of the wedding, so I just dug out the box they were in and photographed them. The headpiece was originally made for a friend’s wedding a year or two before mine; I made the crochet lace (from a pattern in Vanessa Ann's Plain Fancy Crochet) and the flowers (from an ASN leaflet called Bridal Thread Crochet), and she added the pearl sprays and ribbons. When my wedding came around, she gave it to me.
