Notes

I knit loose so I followed the advice to go for the smaller needle, but after a few centimeters it was clear that with my gauge I would have ended up with much too big of a garment for my slender friend. I then emailed Mona Levina and got the very fast but slightly disappointing answer that the original gauge was 22 stitches per 10cm, so that the S measured 102cm in the round.

Of course every wise knitter would argue that I should have made a tension swatch before I started, but 102cm is quite a large S, if you ask me, and the girl in the photo with the yellow-orange cardi doesn’t look like she would need that at all. Anyway, as I apparently needed an XS, my punishment for being lazy was starting over :P

Modification in stitches and repeats: CO 174 stitches. This instead of 166 stitches, which 8,6dm times 19 stitches would have rendered, allowing for 2 stitches extra to “disappear” in width at every cable. For the sleeves I cast on 40 stitches though (as the difference is much smaller on a shorter circumference).

My gauge seems to have been different also in height, because I always had to do more repeats to get the length I wanted. This, even comparing with the pattern’s suggestion of choosing the L repeats for a slender _tall_ person.

However, I had to start the third decrease and bind off for the neck, already after one cable twist. I don’t think the neck looks small on the original photos, but this is what I had to do to stay close to the measurements from the cardigan that my friend gave me to compare with.

Modification on the yoke: Since my amount of stitches was very different from the pattern’s I had to recalculate and got 21 cables around around the yoke. I also skipped the pearls, since I thought it was pretty enough without, and I didn’t care for the extra hassel 8)

Modification in the finish, I didn’t use regular buttons and crochet loops. This wonderful design (I don’t think I’ll pick up stitches and knit a button band any time soon! 8) allowed for my friend to choose the amount and kind of closures she wanted when she tried it on. She enjoyed picking something from the selection I had prepared for her, and in the end went for Norwegian hook-and-eye closures.

I must say I think this turned out super pretty and might just have to make another one for myself 8) but in red/purple?
