I created this bluebird-inspired hat for my father-in-law’s milestone birthday. Since 20014, my FIL has done a lot for eastern bluebird conservation in Kitchener, Ontario (“Bird Man at Doon Valley” p.5). I wanted to create a hat that reflected his love of bluebirds and nature - subtle but with a pop of color (Wildflower Blue and Burnt Cinnamon) to represent the bluebirds. The Fawn and Light Denim motif represents eggs in nests and the rest of the design just fell into place from there.

My FIL loved the hat and my MIL dropped some heavy hints that she would not be adverse to a hand-knit hat of her own. Guess Santa’s elves had better get busy!
