It was a marathon of knitting but I managed to get my Dad’s geocaching hat done in time just days before he heads back to Canada. I’ve been working on the design since last year but only started knitting it beginning of September. Then found out parents coming to visit 2 weeks sooner than planned! Yikes! But 150+ hours later the deed is done and I’m thrilled with the result!
My mom measured the two ski hats that he wears:
#1 - 63 cm (24.8”) circumference, 22 (8.66”) cm brim to top
#2 - 64 cm (25.2”) circumference, 21 (8.27”) cm brim to top
Gauge: aiming for 8.5 st and 14 rows per inch

Just found out the parental unit will be here on Friday the 11th! Yikes! I’m only 10% done! At an average rate of 1 hour per row I’m going to have to set my needles to turbo!!!

Half way there! The good news is that “most” of the hard stuff (5 colors per row) is over. The bad news only 1.5 days left to complete this project…

Whew! Turns out I get an extra day to work on this! I might just get it done in time!

Figured out the pattern for the compass arrow - tricky with the decreases!

Done! Been knitting the top of the hat on the sly during mom and dad’s visit. Closed up the hole in the compass this morning and then mom took dad out of the house for the day so that I could tuck in the ends and shave/block it. Can’t wait to see his face when I present it to him tomorrow night!

Surprised Dad with the hat last night while playing a Cache Me If You Can, a geocaching board game. Told him we found an extra game piece to help him play the game. The look on his face was priceless!
