Notes: I didn’t swatch but, I clearly knit tighter than the designer as my finished cowl is 23” x 8.75”. Instead of following the pattern, I noted what multiple of the seed stitch I was on when I ran out of the first skein (5) and completed the same number with the second skein before finishing with the garter stitch. Since the finishing garter section uses 5 rows instead of 6, I did have a little yarn leftover but, it was minimal.
3/12/2014 - I chose this as my first project after jaw surgery. I wanted a quick, easy project and I just so happened to have the two skeins required. So far, the pattern is a easy as I hoped and should go quickly on the large sz 10 needles. This is my first time working with Swan’s Island yarn and I like it. It splits somewhat easily with my “sharp” needles but bounces back. It’s also a squishier yarn than I’ve previously worked with but, I think that will make quite a cozy cowl.
3/18/2014 - Half-way mark (5 sets of scattered seed pattern). I can only do a little at a time so, the “quick” project is dragging on a bit but, it is as easy as I expected. A good choice for recovery.
3/21/2014 - Finished :-) Not much to say about this one as it’s a simple, straight forward pattern. It would be a great beginner pattern for those who don’t want to start with dishcloths or a plain garter stitch scarf. It was perfect for my purposes and I do love the finished scarf.
Update: I increased the star rating to five. I originally wavered back and forth on how much I like the scarf but, it has since become a favorite. The yarn has held up beautifully, the color is still rich, I love the design itself, and the density is perfect for truly keeping off the chill :D
