Beautiful, beautiful pattern! Easy knit.

The row 5 problem a lot of knitters have mentioned is because the lace pattern does NOT stay within the markers for your repeats. I had to figure this out because the pattern doesn’t tell you this, it assumes you already know just by looking at the chart. Newbies to lace like me go, oh easy peasy chart, repeats are marked off, I can color within the lines… then hit row 5 and see that you CAN’T color within the lines. WTH????

Now that I know, I’ll share so you don’t have to resort to ripping, rereading, reworking, then cussing and eating too much chocolate, then repeating the cycle until the ‘DUH!’ light comes on over your head. If you’re like me, that doesn’t happen until you’ve eaten enough chocolate to go up a pants size or two. I’ll spare you the pain…

At the end of a repeat on row 5, the pattern asks for a sk2p to be worked, except for the last one where a SSK is to be worked.This requires 3 stitches at the end of the repeat. If you use stitch markers, you will find as you knit that only 2 remain. Don’t substitute a SSK before the last repeat on the left. If you do, your leaves won’t line up.

Slip the last 2 sts to your right needle, drop the marker from your left needle, move the slipped sts back to your left needle, work the sk2p, and THEN replace your marker. This keeps your knitting lined up correctly with the chart.

Take heart, you only have to do this on the 7 row 5s in the blanket…
