I’m too lazy to switch up needle sizes, so I’m sticking with US2 unless I absolutely have to. I have skinny ankles, so I actually like the snugness.

I’m not sure the wider short-row heel actually makes that much difference. I like the garter stitch for the heel, which I’ve never done before. I need to remember next time to adjust the manner in which I work the wraps to make sure both sides of the heel match (see close-up).

The botanist in me is horrified that I am making “Elodea” socks out of pink and yellow yarn, but I’m thrilled to find a pattern that makes use of my self-striping yarn.
