Notes

Having a hard time getting acceptable gauge - my swatch is close (on 7’s) but is two stitches shy and doesn’t have a great density, so I’m switching to 6’s for my main needles and knitting the 36.75 size: by my math, it should fit my 33” full bust.

February 18, 2017

I cast on for the size 33 because some others have had notes about the shoulder puff. it’s only different from the 36.75 by 4 stitches at the back, and one stitch for each side of the front. I increased those stitches into the yoke just before starting the stripe pattern, so it’s back up to the 36.75 in time to close over my chest. I plan to block the thing once I get to the underarm split to check my gauge and fit because I’m paranoid like that.

February 20, 2017

I have separated the sleeves to waste yarn and blocked the yoke on the needles. I did this mostly because I was nervous about underarm fit, but also because I graded sizes in the shoulder area and it’s good to double check these things. Nothing surprising happened, which is good - plus the stripes flattened out nicely. I did decide to increase an additional 7 sts per front as it was definitely not going to close over my boobs otherwise. I didn’t rip back so my V’s going to be a bit deeper but I’m alright with that.

Waist Shaping: I appear to have gone nuts with the fit mods so I might as well keep going…Have decided to work one extra decrease row and 2.5 extra increase rows. This should reduce waist bulk and make it roomier in the hips (I want some positive ease so the bottom button reaches) - the extra 1/2 increase row (+2sts) will bring my 7 sts per front increase from earlier up to a number divisible by 4 for the skip stitch pattern. Jon says it’s starting to look like a sweater! I ran out of the first ball of plomo four rows after starting the increases.

The torso is finished! Everything went well there, so nothing to report. Man, this thing is LOOOONG. Like, long enough for leggings. I have a long torso so that’s saying something.

March 21, 2017

Right. I’m magic looping two-at-a-time sleeves. 1/3 of the way down the arm so far. VERY nervous that I’m going to run out of yarn, because I added extra stitches in the torso to give myself some extra breathing room. I guess we’ll find out. All these balls of yarn are different colors anyways so if I have to get more I’ll get more. Jon says ‘it suits you’ which might be the nicest thing he’s ever said about an in-progress project. Ever.

March 28, 2017

Sleeves are done! I’ve got less than 3 meters of red yarn left, that was close! I made no mods except to include some extra rows to meet the length requirements since my gauge is smaller. They’re presently at about thumb joint length but we’ll see how they block up once the button band is done.

April 3, 2017

SHE’S DONE! I ended up knitting the button band twice because I was second-guessing the buttonhole situation but we got there in the end. I knit it to 1.5” instead of 1.25” because my chosen buttons are larger than recommended. I’ve got 44 grams of the last ball of Plomo left over.

I was a bit worried when it was done because I had quite a serious twist down the body of the sweater but it blocked right out, so it must have been the yarn. Interestingly, it also grew an inch or two in body length- and then shrank back up to pre-blocking measurements within an hour or two of wearing. So basically, it’s perfect.
