The incorrect use of the apostrophe in the name of these mitts is making me twitchy, those who know me well won’t be surprised at that. It didn’t stop me from casting on.

These are being knitted with the leftover yarn from my Dark and Stormy cardigan. I love this yarn and didn’t want what is left to end up in an odd ball container.

This pattern is not clearly written and I’m relieved to see that in searching other people’s projects that the problem wasn’t only with me. If you are also wondering, when the directions tell you to “Repeat these 9(10) rows for 18(20) rows…..” what it really means is to work in pattern as established until you have worked 18(20) rows total, then begin thumb shaping. I figured this out too late, so I will have to knit my mitten longer to end it on the correct row. I think it will be okay, but I’m sure not pulling it out. Well, I don’t plan on it unless it really drives me crazy being long, which I really hope it won’t.

I’m a little bummed I played it conservatively with the yarn. I totally could have gotten whole mittens out of the amount of yarn I had left, but was afraid to risk it. The mitts, finished, weigh about 1.7 oz and I have .7 oz left. Bummer. I really like this yarn too much and wish I had used up every inch, but I guess not enough to pull out the tops and continue up to make whole mittens.
