Cast on.

4.23.13
I’ve made great progress on the shawl in the last few weeks. Messed up the first eight or so rows of the lace pattern.

6.23.13
Had the urge to pick this up, probably because the air conditioning is on and it’s more bearable to work with a wool shawl. I just ripped back to the point before the lace pattern. As I said before I messed up the first eight or so rows plus the way I was making one on the one side looked very messy.

7.1.13
Since ripping back, this project has been beckoning me to work on it some more, to make up for all I lost. Ripping back was a smart choice---I can do the M1 on either side of the lace better (note: do M1L, then the 21 lace stitches, then do M1R) and I was able to add a few more repeats of the shoulders. I’m chalking it up to impatience but I need to remember that I have to make patterns larger and longer to accommodate my frame.
Like another Raveler, I ended up with 169 stitches before the gusset instead of 167. My sections were 40-34-21-34-40 stitches. But then I did three more repeats so I had 193 (46-40-21-40-46 stitches.) I’m not sure how that will play out being two stitches over when I reach the lace pattern for the bottom. I guess I can decrease them at some point. I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.

I made about 20 rows of progress since my last update. Then I messed up the lace pattern but figured I’d let it slide and get it back to normal in a couple rows. But a couple rows later, I messed up again and had a big gaping hole in the middle so I decide to just rip back. I once said this was a great project because it had long stretches of stockinette then POP a little lace to keep it interesting. Now I’m rethinking that comment. If I mess up the lace, I have to rip back all the side stockinette. Ah well. I think it’s a lovely pattern and worth pushing on for.

I’m going to have to rip back for the umpteenth million time. I was wondering why the lace pattern looked off. I kept hoping it’d look right in a row or two. Turns out when you use a chart on a worked-flat garment, you don’t go from right to left every row.

11.7.13
Finally making decent progress on this. Almost done with the lace gusset. I’m excited to get this done and wrap it around me this winter!

1.17.14
Picked this up again last night and was so lost. It’s been a couple months since I’ve touched it and after a lot of math (and swearing) I finally figured out what I was doing when I left it. I’ve had to re-figure things (like only doing certain increases every other right side row, etc) because I refuse to rip back again. I’m itching to get this done!
