Notes

Addi Turbo needle size 1. Foot circumference 9.25 inches, foot length 9 inches. Number of foot stitches: 72.

My padded sole: Heel stitch on entire sole starting at the end of the toe shaping; odd number of stitches on sole (so that the stitch at the end of the needle is never a slip stitch, which makes it easier to maintain proper tension across needles); add short rows on sole as needed (about every four rounds) to bring the length of the sole even with the length of the instep (heel stitch has fewer rows per inch than stockinette).

I got the idea for the reinforced padded sole using heel stitch from Winwick Mum. Her tutorial is written for top-down socks, but to me the technique seems even easier with toe-up socks. Also, note that her tutorial doesn’t include the use of short rows to even up the length of the sole and instep; this may be because her sample sock is made with heavier yarn than mine, so the overall number of rows in the foot would be smaller and thus the difference between sole and instep length would be less noticeable.
