I picked up Issue 50 of Lets Get Crafting Knit and Crochet, as I loved the colours of the free yarn, what I should have done is actually check that there were any crochet patterns in the magazine that I actually wanted to make, sadly, while there is plenty of cute little fast makes, nothing inspired me, but I did fall in love with Party Percy, designed for the magazine by Amanda Berry. Seeing as I cant knit I have two options, learn to knit or adapt the pattern to crochet, adapting the pattern is what appeals to me the most so that is what I plan to do, I am going to try and match Amanda’s version as closely as possible, using the free yarns. Wish me luck!

May 1st Somebody should have said “what a stoooopid idea, my excitment for this has waned now as I have worked many many rows and then had to pull the whole thing out, twice!!!! I am so hoping the pharse “3rd time lucky” proves correct. I have decided to work the head and trunk in two pieces as I cant get my maths right to make it all in one peice. I am using contrasing yarn to mark progress as a stitch marker is leaving a big hole.

I began with a 3mm hook which produced a very very non flexible fabric, not very good for snuggling, a 4mm left to many gaps so I have settled on a 3.5 which seems ok so far. The yarn itself is awful, I should have known as I have never had a kit from this magazine that does not have at least one skein of fuzzy and knotty peices, chaniging to the biger hook has helped with the scratchyness but Im not enjoting using the yarn, at least though, if it all goes tits up I can just bin the yarn without any guilt.

2nd May
Third time lucky proved right, WOOHOOO. Head and body are complete, I think the head looks more dimensionally correct to the original knit version when placed sideways so thats what I plan to do, the body could be a lot better but its passable, and for a first attempt at creating, I am actually pretty damn proud! Im hoping that it looks better once sewn on to the head, working the coloured striped were easy, I didnt fasten off at the end of each stripe so that made things less fussy.

Legs, Ears, Arms and Tusks to work, oh and the trunk.

3rd May
Arms and legs made to a happyish standard. I am having major probs with the trunk, I have spent hours of stitching and frogging in a vain attempt to get my work to resemble a trunk and not a penis! Im thinking pink may not be the best colour for this now.

4th May
Whew, all parts now completed and sewn together, Im very happy with how it looks, I just have the eyes to add on and he is finished. Considering this is my first ever Amigurumi pattern I am more than impressed myself, I know there are some bits which could be better, such as his ears, but for a first go, he is more that enough. Very Very happy. :)
