I started out using the newborn pattern, but it looked waaaay too tiny for my 8 pounders! I started the small and it looks to be about the same as my other newborn diaper covers.

I picked up 42 stitches on each leg and found these instructions to be very helpful http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/patterns/1630757/1-25#2
