The first Penguin Hat I made didn’t fit, so I’ll try another pattern. Susan’s patterns always seem to work well for me. I’m not going to make this pointed though, I’ll decrease for a round cap.

October 27, 2010: I used Wool-Ease for this hat since I didn’t have enough vintage. I CO 90 including the earflaps and knit for 5 inches before decreasing every other round starting with k7, k2tog 10 times. The hat pretty much ended up being my own basic design, rather than relying on Susan’s pattern, although I did use her pattern for the earflaps.

The hat fits me (snuggly), so it better fit this kid!

I did a single crochet border around the brim, only the earflaps are a little wonky now, which is to be expected I think.

This hat is not as good as the first, but, c’est la vie. The face is definitely wonky, but I think that gives it charm.

Beak - CO 16, work in stockinette
Decrease on each k row (k1, k2tog….ssk, k1)

Large eyes (make 2)- CO 8, work in stockingette
Increase on each k row (k1, m1….m1, k1) to 16,
