Notes

My mother-in-law broke her elbow recently and has to wear one of those uncomfortable arm slings with a tiny strap to hold the entire weight of her arm. I thought it would be nice to make her a small swatch that was soft but airy that would ease the tension on her shoulders and add some cushion without adding bulk or warmth (because it’s summer).

Pattern: 40 stitches on size 8 metal needles.

Knit 1 row, Purl 1 row.
Knit 2, yarn over (YO), knit 2 together (k2tog). Repeat 7 more times for a total of 8 holes.

Knit 1 row, Purl 1 row.
Knit 2, yarn over (YO), knit 2 together (k2tog). Repeat to end of row.
Purl 2, yo, p2tog. Repeat to end of row.

Repeat pattern 4 more times for a total of 6 rows of holes. After last purl/yo row, knit 1 more row, purl 1 more row, then bind off last row.

To finish, I added 3 gold-toned metal shank buttons (one on each end and one in the middle) that fit easily but snugly through the yarn over holes. That way, she could wrap it around the strap and adjust it as necessary.
