Notes

Jan. 2, 2012: This project was started in 2001 or 2002 for my DH. It was put away when we moved in 2002 and forgotten about until my stash entering project in the summer and fall of 2011. Once the pattern was finally located, it was put aside until my DH is gone for work so that I can surprise him with it since he thinks that the pattern is still long gone and that I have to reverse engineer the pattern in order to complete this project. I may need to drop down to a 5.0mm hook since I have found that my tension has gotten looser since starting to knit.

Jan. 8, 2012: I’ve pulled this project out to see how much of it I can get done in the next 9-10 days. I quickly discovered that my tension has changed, and I have to drop down to a 5.0mm hook. I will be weighing strips in varying states of completion to be able estimate the yardage better.

Jan. 11, 2012: I’ve gotten a few new strips started so that I can weigh and estimate how much yarn was already used in this afghan. I have added the RHSS to my stash and linked it to this project. The black RH Comfort will still need to be listed. I will need to purchase more of the Dark Sage RHSS at my earliest opportunity. Also, my earlier estimates of how complete this project is were wrong and I’ve adjusted it down accordingly. I will not have this completed by the time Derek returns on the 18th, but I will be able to resume work on it when he leaves again on ~24th

Jan. 18, 2012: Well I have just finished cleaning up this project and putting it back in its tote for temporary hibernation. All the partial balls are rewound, etc. I am unable to locate more Dark Sage RHSS locally, so I am searching online sources. I laid out the strips on the floor yesterday and I will require at least 3 more, and probably 5 or 6 in order for this afghan to look balanced and proportional. I have updated the progress bar to 50% because I feel that this project is at least half done.

Jan.19, 2012: I decided to “spoil the surprise” and ask Derek’s advice about the yarn. My only option for continuing with the green colour scheme is an online order from the States. I was considering the possibility of using a beige/ brown scheme to stagger between green strips, but Derek prefers that the entire afghan be the green shades. I now need to decide if I am going to continue with this project until I am completely out of yarn, or re-hibernate it until I can order the additional yarn.

Feb. 16, 2012: I have calculated the cost of an order to Herrschnerrs, and the shipping involved makes it prohibitive to order until I get a “free shipping” email. To make it easier to navigate my projects in progress, I have chosen to re-hibernate this afghan until I have placed and received the yarn I need to complete it.

Mar. 13, 2012: Yarn arrived yesterday, so this project will be coming out of hibernation shortly. I have several designs on deadline right now, but I do need a crochet project for when it’s too early for my hands to knit.

Mar. 17, 2012: I’ve started working on this again. I finished off the black on one strip, and started a new aran strip. I’m trying out my new Knitter’s Pride crochet hook, and finding it a little slower as my hands adjust to changing the way I hold my hook. I discovered that working on black at night isn’t the best for my eyes!

Aug. 8, 2012: According to Derek, the afghan is done! 11 strips total for 4620 m of yarn. I still need to get the total weight of it! I found another partial strip which I may end up adding to it yet.
