Notes

Do wider stripes in the front and skinnier stripes on the sides. It will make me look skinny. Only using 3 colors instead of 4 because I realized I would be wearing this in public.

2/1: Another day, another storm, another school closing… time to start!

Did a gauge swatch and started with a G hook, then ripped it out and restarted with an H hook and switched brands to Boye. It was too difficult with my Susan Bates G and I knew the gauge swatch was small, even though I think this will grow some when I steam block it. Going much faster now.

2/2: It looks like the first row should be 90.85” long.

Left Front for size 14, 114 stitches should = 32.5”

14 stitches for 4” = 3.5 stitches/inch

Drew up the schematic for size 14. Only part I’m not totally sure of is the hood.

Doing 6 rows of each color, then 4, then 2, then 1, if needed. Not sure how I’ll work the back yet. Sleeves will probably be 4 rows in the center 2 rows at the sides.

2/3: I think I’m going to do the following stripe pattern:
6 Bright Pink
6 Peach
6 Cream
4 Peach
4 Bright Pink
4 Peach
2 Cream
2 Peach
3 Bright Pink
2 Peach
4 Cream
4 Peach
6 Cream
6 Peach
3 Bright Pink

that should bring me to the center back which would meet up with the bright pink stripe in the center back.

Still debating about having thinner stripes in the back, but for now I’ll go with symmetry. I do need to draw this out and make sure my shoulder seams will have stripes that match up… forgot about that. Looks like if I make them match up, I’ll end up with a super big stripe of peach center back, so I’m going to stick with this and my shoulder stripes will not match up.

2/3 (later in the day) revised stripe pattern so shoulder stripes match up:
add another row to the 6” front so that it’s 18 rows,
6 Bright Pink
6 Peach
6 Cream
4 Peach
4 Bright Pink
4 Peach
2 Cream
2 Peach
4 Bright Pink (armhole)
2 Peach
2 Cream
4 Peach
4 Bright Pink
4 Peach
6 Cream
3 Peach

I still need to figure out the pattern for the hood and sleeves.

For sleeves, peach should be center color, I think since the edge will be peach.

Hood pattern should be the same as the front.

2/4: Left front and armhole done!

2/5: Left back done.
Hope to have right front/back and hood done this weekend. Being that another snowstorm is on the way and all.

2/9: Got through the right front today.
Started the front from the top instead of the bottom.

I wonder if this will look better belted more towards the top like an empire waist. I think I will do a solid color belt in the bright pink.

2/10: Made it through the hood. Ended up doing the following for the hood:
Skip 7 on each side, then repeated row
Skipped 7 more on each side, then repeated row
Skipped 7 more on each side, ended after one row
Not sure if it’s right, but that’s what it is for now.

For the stripes to match the neckline, I should have changed the stripe pattern, but it’s fine as is.

2/12: Will be done with the right back this morning, then the main piece will be done. I’ll deal with redoing the hood shaping at the end.

The sleeve is 18” wide, which is 49.5 rows, so with 50 rows the stripes will be:
2 Bright Pink
2 Peach
2 Cream
4 Peach
4 Bright Pink
4 Peach
4 Cream
6 Peach
4 Cream
4 Peach
4 Bright Pink
4 Peach
2 Cream
2 Peach
2 Bright Pink

unless I do all 2 row stripes?

later in the morning… Done with the main piece! It looks great! No overlap at the hip, but I like how the graduated striping width came out.

2/13: Finished one sleeve. Just one more sleeve and the belt left!

2/14: started on the second sleeve, trying a different stripe pattern. Not sure I’m happy with the other sleeve. Will see which one works out best then make another one:
2 Bright Pink
2 Peach
2 Bright Pink
2 Peach
2 Cream
2 Peach
2 Bright Pink
2 Peach
2 Cream
4 Peach
6 Bright Pink
4 Peach
2 Cream
2 Peach
2 Bright Pink
2 Peach
2 Cream
2 Peach
2 Bright Pink
2 Peach
2 Bright Pink

2/15: That stripe pattern wasn’t working either. Started sleeve stripe pattern #3. I think this is the one! First and center stripes in Bright Pink. More 2 row stripes than the first try, less than the second. I’m also only doing 48 rows this time.

2 Bright Pink
2 Peach
2 Cream
2 Peach
2 Bright Pink
4 Peach
4 Cream
4 Peach
4 Bright Pink
4 Peach
4 Cream
4 Peach
2 Bright Pink
2 Peach
2 Cream
2 Peach
2 Bright Pink

2/17: FINALLY! Third time’s a charm. I’m sticking with this sleeve. Need to redo the other one now.

2/19: Finished the second sleeve and the belt so the crochet is done. Started weaving in the ends. This is going to take a while.

Random thoughts:
This would make a great vest with 6-8 less rows at the shoulder and a deeper armhole.

This fits me more like a cardigan than a jacket.

The multistrand painted crochet method would be great for this pattern.

Not exactly sure how much yarn this took. I thought it would take more than expected, but then it didn’t. Not sure if 2 or 3 skeins of Currant (I used the same color on 3 projects and lost count.)

Matching stripes is harder than I remember it being.

5/8: In under 1.5 hrs I just wove in the ends of the sleeves. I can’t believe I put this off for so long. If I can finish this week at least I can wear it a few times before its too hot to wear it.

10/23: So it’s cold again and I decided I want to wear this and it’s time to finally finish. I used mattress stitch to sew up the back, hood, and shoulder seams. I hate the hood seam, it’s not smooth. I’m not redoing it though. I don’t usually wear my hood up anyway. I can probably steam and pull it into place close enough. And you can’t tell when the hood is down. This would have looked better with waist shaping.

11/23: Almost all sewn together and ends woven in. Considering frogging. Don’t think I like it. May not use the belt. I do think it looks better with 1 large button. Will either add pockets or hem the bottom up a few inches. Hood shaping is ridiculous. Hopefully I can steam that into being half decent looking. At least you cant see that unless the hood is up.
