Notes

Cute little sprites … Twig and Sprout. Twig and Sprout are inverse twins -the same yet different.

Journal

2014-07-24: Complete Sprout’s Face piece. Complete body section. I stopped here because I don’t have the safety eyes yet. So I’ll wait to continue with the legs. Meanwhile I moved on to the ears and completed knitting the first ear.

2014-07-25: Start second ear. I’m going to knit all of the pieces for both sprites before I start putting them together. I want both face pieces available before I start embroidering the faces.

2014-07-26: Second ear, first leg and hands finished for sprout. Complete Twig’s face & hands.

2014-07-27: Complete Twig’s ears & start body.

2014-07-28: Complete Twig’s body and first leg. Embroider both faces. Whip stitch ears & hands closed. Attach face, ears and hands to sprout. Finish Sprouts second leg.

2014-07-29: Finish Twig’s second leg. Attach arms and ears. Weave in ends for both Twig and Sprout. Pictures will arrive after they are given as gifts.

Summary

  • After reading about eyes in “Knit a Monster Nursery”, I decided I would be embroidering the eyes rather than using the safety eyes I ordered. Oh well.

  • Weave in the tail for the arms after completing row 4. I used the tail to clean up any open stitches resulting from the cast on.

  • Cast on using Long-tailed cast on for “bottom-up” pieces, German twisted cast on for face and Judy’s Magic cast on for “top-down” pieces.

  • Bind off using the traditional bind off: K2, (pass stitch over, K1) * for knitwise and P2, (pass stitch over, P1) * for purlwise bind off.

  • I’m knitting the pattern before the ear update, so my first section decreases are “wrong”. I don’t think it will matter because that’s the corner of the ear that gets folded over.

  • I added an extra row in the row 22 - 24 section by mistake on sprout. So I repeated the “mistake” on twig.

  • Ears are tacked 2 stitches beyond the center stitch (the stitch that runs down from the point).

  • I whip stitched the arms closed before attaching to the body.

  • Arms are aligned with the bottom of the face panel.
