Notes

Well, I have some time and some yarn, so I’m making mitts to match my socks. The mitts will use 2x2 ribbing and will be short, even though I probably have enough yarn to complete a full length pair of mitts.

Journal

2014-10-29: Cast on 52 stitches using GTCO. Join in the round. Complete cuff, first 4 stockinette rounds and begin gusset.

2014-10-30: Complete first gusset, 4 rounds after gusset, split for hand. Complete stockinette rounds in hand and move on. I can’t end the mitt correctly without its pair in the same position. Work second mitt to same position and knit both mitts until the black runs out on the first mitt. Complete knitting both mitts.

2014-10-31: Weave in ends, just in time for halloween

Summary

  • I knit these on 2 circulars.

  • Pattern

    • Cast 52 stitches using german twisted cast on.
    • Knit 16 rounds of 2x2 rib
    • change colors and knit 4 rounds stockinette
    • K25, pm, m1r, k1, m1l, pm, k to end
    • alternate knit round with increase round until thumb contains 25 stitches..
    • knit 4 rounds
    • k25, move thumb stitches to a holder, k26
    • k25, m1, k26 (the hand ends with 2x2 ribbing, so I need a number of stitches that divides by 4).
    • knit 12 rounds stockinette.
    • knit 10 rounds 2x2 rib
    • bind off
    • put thumb stitches on needles
    • M1, K to end M1, M1 (stitch count must be divisible by 4)
    • knit 1 round stockinette.
    • knit 6 rounds 2x2 rib
    • bind off.
  • Pattern directions will go away once I complete my blog post on these mitts. The pattern will be in the blog post and a link to the post will be added here.

  • rather than fussy cut my double double for the last thumb, I pulled out a heel/toe skein in black & I’ll use that for the 2 thumb rounds.

  • I have a small hand, so I used a US 1 (2.25mm) needle. You can use US 1.5 (2.50mm) or a US 2 (2.75mm) needles for a larger size or increase the cast on count and adjust pattern appropriately.
