Notes

The featured yarn for the Oct-Nov sock in the GPY sock club was Koigu. While I loved this yarn, I didn’t like it for the featured pattern. So, I picked up some skeins for use with this pattern.

Summary

  • I’m using 2 circulars. This pattern is a 4-needle pattern, 3 working needles, and one needle to knit with. If necessary, I’ll place markers to indicate stitches on a DPN.

  • Cast on using German Twisted cast on using US 1.5 (2.50 mm). Cuff is 15 rows.

  • This colorway has too much contrast for this pattern. The pattern is hidden. I’m going to have to knit this pattern again with a better colorway choice.

  • Changed to US 1.0 (2.25 mm) needles at start of heel flap.

  • I made a slight modification to the heel. I changed the 6 stitch center rib to an eye of partridge rib to give a little extra cushiness at the back of my heel.

  • At the end of the gusset, I reset start of round to start of sole stitches. One needle contains sole stitches, one needle contains instep stitches.

  • My row gauge is 13 rows / inch instead of the specified 12 rows / inch. My toe will be 1.85” instead of 2” as a result.

  • Stopped foot after round 8 of chart. Total length is 2 rows + 5 repeats of chart. Dropped a lifeline before start of toe.

  • My toe is as follows: Round 1 - K1, SSK, K * , K2tog, K1, next round of chart without the M1s. Round 2 - K * , next round of chart.

  • When the toe decreases are in the middle of the toe (vs. standard edge decreases) I find that I need to create a longer foot to get the toe to fit.
