Notes

This sock was started in Cookie’s sock design class at Stitches West. The stitch pattern comes from a Japanese stitch dictionary. Even though my normal sock is 64-68 stitches, I chose to implement this pattern initially without adjustments and use 72 stitches. The RSLC stitch brings the sock in a bit, but not enough to account for the extra stitches. So, I’m also starting a modified pattern sock that reduces the number of stitches to 66. I’ll finish the 66 stitch sock since it fits me and start a 72 stitch sock to test the pattern.

Journal

2013-02-22: Completed cuff and started first pattern repeat on 72 stitch sock.

2013-04-24: Started cuff on 66 stitch sock. Completed 5 rows.

2013-04-27: Completed 66 stitch cuff.

2013-04-28: (66 stitch) Completed three pattern repeats.

2013-05-02: (66 stitch) Completed right sock gusset.

2013-05-22: (66 stitch) Completed left sock foot & toe. Ripped out 72 stitch cuff after validation my heel transition. All work will be on the 66 stitch pair now. I’ll have to pull another skein from stash to knit the 72 stitch sock.

2013-05-23: finished left cuff

2013-05-24: Complete 2 leg pattern repeats.

2013-05-25: Completed 3rd leg repeat. Leg is done. Complete heel flap.

2013-05-26: Completed left sock gusset.

2013-05-27: Complete left foot & toe. 34 grams remain.

Summary

  • cast on 72 with Tilly’s very stretchy cast on. unfortunately, the 66 stitch sock is not a straight 2x2 rib, so I’m switching to German twisted cast on.

  • the funny stitch with the crook in the symbol is slip stitch 2 over stitch 1, holding on left needle; K into SL (still held on left needle), slip off left needle; K into stitch 1 and slip off left needle (RSLC)

  • My 72 stitch cuff is K2P2 rib, with the exception of the RSLC stitch column. In that column, I continue RSLC up into the cuff.

  • My 66 stitch cuff is the same as the 72 stitch cuff, except that one of the P2s is a P1. Since this cuff isn’t a regular rib, I’m changing my cast on to the German twisted cast on.
