I just noticed this blog post on the Fleegle heel, so naturally I wanted to try it!
I’ve never done toe-up socks before, so I had to start by looking up how to do Judy’s Magic Cast-on. I had to do that twice because the instructions contain a critical note about needle two after you do needle two. It reminded me of that episode of MASH where Henry is reading the instructions to defuse a bomb, “cut the red wire. But first…!” This in turn reminded me of the ossum Perl module, Acme::ButFirst. Maybe I’ll try curiousjeny’s version when I get to sock two.
26 Aug 2012 - They are coming out too small. I think I’ll rip it back and add more increases.
I ripped it all the way back to the beginning because I had a weird loop sticking out at the first turn from needle one to needle two. I thought I had maybe done that back loop thing wrong or something, but I just fixed it up with the tail. But since I was ripping back all the way to the increases anyway, I decided to just start over. I tried curiousjeny’s variation, but I had the same problem…I’m missing something about that first turn! I tried again using knitpurlhunter’s video and that seems to have worked okay (she also mentions the back loop thing at the proper time :).
First heel done. Very cool!
1 Sep 2012 - First sock done! The invisible ribbed bind-off is neat…kind of like kitchener stitch.
3 Sep 2012 - Turned the heel on sock 2…now it’s down the home stretch!
16 Sep 2012 - New socks! Fantastic!
