I loved the first one so much I had to make a second. This yarn has a more handspun look to it - as opposed to the solid gray of the last wrap. The yarn also seems to have a bit more poof so it’s coming out just a little larger than the last one.
8/12/11: Finished knitting the flat portion, joined to knit in the round, 4 inches in. Only 8 more inches to go.
I think solid dark wood buttons would look amazing with this wrap. :)
8/14/11: Wrap complete! Yarn definitely a little chunkier than the first wrap I made using Cascade 128 Superwash.
Here are my mods for this pattern:
CO 56 sts. Knit in Twisted Rib pattern.
Row 1 (RS): K2, p2 to end of round.
Row 2 (WS): k2, p2 to end of round.
Row 3 (RS): (Yo, ssk, p2) to end of round.
Row 4 (WS): k2, p2 to end of round.
- I’ll repeat these 4 rows until I’m ready to join in the round (32 rows - about 8”). After that, I eliminated the YO eyelet and used a M1 in place of the YO. New stitch pattern as follows:
R1: (k2, p2) to end of round
R2: (k2, p2) to end of round
R3: (m1, ssk, p2) to end of round
R4: (k2, p2) to end of round
Continued with this pattern for another 12 inches.
Total length before decreases: ~20” (total rounds: 80)
Decreasing in twisted rib pattern.
Twisted Rib Decrease
Last regular round: (k2,p2) to end of round. (60 sts)
Decrease Rounds:
R1: ((k2, p2) x 3, k2, p2tog, (k2, p2) x 3) x 2 (54 sts)
R2: ((k2, p2) x 3, k2, p1, (k2, p2) x 3) x 2
R3: (m1, ssk, p2, m1, ssk, p2tog, m1, ssk, p2, m1, ssk, p1, m1, ssk, p2, m1, ssk, p2tog, m1, ssk, p2) x 2 (50 sts)
R4: ((k2, p2, k2, p1) x 3, k2, p2) x 2
R5: (k2, p2tog, k2, p1) x 3, k2, p2tog) x 2 (42 sts)
R6: (k2, p1) x 7
R7: ((m1, ssk, p1, ssk, p1) x 3, m1, ssk, p1) x 2 (36 sts)
R8: ((k2, p1, k1, p1) x 3, k2, p1) x 2
R9: ((k2tog, p1, k1, p1) x 3, k2tog, p1) x 2 (28 sts)
R10: (k1, p1) x 14
R11: (ssk) x 7 (14 sts)
R12: (k2tog) x 7 (7 sts)
Cut yarn and pull through 7 remaining sts. Pull tight to secure, weave tail to inside and trim.
Using a cast on of 56 worked well for decreases, felt more symmetrical to me than the last wrap. Also good because the yarn is bulkier, if I had cast on 60 sts it would have been large.
Calling this done. Need to find buttons.
Check out my project page for similar modifications on my first wrap - CO 60 sts.
