Notes

Pacifier clip for a friend’s newborn girl. Knitting the upside-down daisy hat to go w/ clip as well.

3/29/10: Started this hat last night. I’m not sure how I feel about the end product w/ the yarn I’m using. The yarn is a light worsted weight - but it’s the only pink I have enough of in my stash to complete this hat. That said, I had to cast on a larger number of stitches and I’m afraid the hat will be really big for this 2 month old baby! I’m intending to make size 0-6 months. Worst case scenario, she’ll grow into it.

I may also check out the “Simple Hat” patterns at the beginning of the book as I believe those may contain info on knitting a basic hat in different weight yarns. This -may- solve my problem.

Aside from the problem with the correct weight yarn, this yarn feels very soft and baby friendly. It’s polyester/acrylic and is so soft to touch. It also seems to have a bit of shimmer to it.

3/30/10: Checked the Simple Hat 3 pattern at the beginning of Itty Bitty Hats. I should have looked there first. It suggests casting on 72 stitches for 0-6 mo in light worsted weight yarn. After looking at my swatch, I calculated and came up with 78 sts. so I cast on 80. I think this might turn out big. :/ Better big than not big enough!

Also - this project keeps getting put off because there are other things I want to finish first. I’ve got another hat to cast on tonight, so this will have to wait until that one is finished.

4/5/10: Finished up the base of the hat, including the stem. All that’s left is to knit the petals and sew them on to the hat. I’m not sure how big this will be on Ayden. She’s just a couple months old. But it doesn’t look enormous. I should be able to finish this last bit in a day (if I can get a good couple hours of knitting in!)

4/9/10: Finished this up at lunch today. Only had to finish one petal and then sew them all on. The pattern says to put the cast-on edge against the base of the stem on the top of the hat. I did it the other way around. I tucked the “point” of the petal under, and put the bound-off edge against the stem base. I thought my cast-on edge looked more rounded like a flower petal. It was probably just my imagination.

I didn’t think my petals would look very good on the hat. After I knit them and was comparing, I was a little concerned. But after whipstitching them to the hat, I’m pleased with the final results.

Wish I had had a brighter, richer pink to use, though. I didn’t like this yarn as much as others.
