Shawl for my swap partner. Representative of the woods Little Red Riding Hood would go through to reach Grandma’s house. Chose the dark teal based on my swap partners color preferences.
4/10/12: cast on with US size 7 since my 6s are in use. Don’t think this will be an issue, the fabric has a nice density even with the larger needle size.
4/11/12: finished stockinette portion and completed first row of chart 1 in the lace. So far this shawl has been really quick and easy to memorize (haha…of course it feels that way after just 1 lace row…)
Not a big fan of gloss fingering. The yarn feels a little rough in my hands. I’m hoping that after blocking the yarn will soften a bit. With a merino/silk blend I was expecting a little softer fabric.
4/20/12: Finished the knitting, now I just need to get to the blocking. I just haven’t had the energy to do anything with it yet.
Enjoyed the knit, the lace pattern was easy to memorize and very pleasant to work on. I bound off using Jenny’s Super Stretchy Bind-Off to ensure the ruffle ruffled properly and so that when it comes time to block, it can stretch to it’s full potential. I would have preferred a different kind of edging that would keep it from rolling, but I didn’t want to take the time to come up with one and I didn’t want garter edges. Because the ruffle is purely stockinette, there will be some rolling.
4/25/12: Finally got this blocked. I really love how the ruffle came out and the lace opened up so nicely! I’d love to do this shawl in a gradient yarn, starting with brown at the top/center and graduating out to different shades of green.
