Notes

12/24: Gave this to my sister tonight. She LOVED it. Couldn’t stop turning it back and forth. :)

12/17: Finally finished tonight. It was fun seeing the two sisters come together, although I admit with the little pieces this project took longer than I expected it to.

I modified the pattern just a little - I used twisted stitches for the “pink” sister’s hair - I got the directions from Itty Bitty Toys - looking at the Lamb, New Sock Monkey, and Doll pattern to figure it out. I didn’t measure a specific length to twist, rather just wwhat felt right. I made 3 different sections of hair - casting on 6 stitches twice, and 4 stitches the third time. It was perfect.

Also, instead of braiding the hair for the “blue” sister, I left her hair straight, but in pigtails. And instead of just threading the yarn through a part of her head, I thread it all the way around the back of her head and then just split it in half. I initially couldn’t decide if I wanted to leave it straight and long, but since this toy will most likely be around my 9 mo old son after I gift this to my sister, I thought it safest to secure the hair in some way (thus the pigtails!)

I also really like the effect the crocheted slip stitch gives the bottom of the toy. It gives the girls a sturdy base to stand on and makes them feel nice and weighty.

I decided to try this pattern for my sister at Christmas time. I hope, in the end, I can figure out how to make the hair for one sister long and curly instead of braided since my sister has curly hair.
