The cast-on to the project is fiddly. I’m more comfortable with double-pointed needles than trying to magic loop this small number of stitches, so I did that for the first few rows until I had enough to transfer to a circular needle.

The Blue Heron is very slippery, so I’m using my cubix wood needles from WEBS - they grip a little better - I only have one pair in a size 6 - which for me equals size 5 needles in regular ones.

3/24/2013 - did 2 repeats of section 2, and realized I wouldn’t have enough yarn for a 3rd repeat, but since the project measured about 42 in across already, it will be plenty big enough for the recipient.

3/30/2013 - finished the knitting - about 40 yards left of the yarn, with an extra repeat of rows 3 and 4 in chart 4, and jsso bind-off purlwise. Yet to be blocked, but the size turned out to be more like the large (yay!).

4/4/2013 - It has really grown in the blocking-over 60 inches long! But lovely, lovely hand.

In doing the two repeats of chart 2, I had about 10% of the yarn leftover, and that was including an extra repeat of rows 3 and 4 in the final chart.
