Notes

Navy blue will be the cable that runs across squares, gradient purples will be the rest. Navy blue edging.

Had some trouble deciphering directions early on, designer VERY responsive and helpful in answering my question.

Finished the first square in about a month, took a couple of weeks off before casting on the second. It is much easier now, as I have memorized some of the more common abbreviations, and mastered some of the trickier stitches. Cast on square number 2 on 2/17/2018.

Hmmm, still seems to take a month or more to knit a square, as it isn’t the kind of knitting I can do without thinking. Finished square number 2 on March 25, immediately cast on the square that joins them. Still tricky, but the longer rows come first, so maybe it will go faster?

Not faster, put it down to finish a sweater. But tonight I finished the third square. July 2.

If I am to finish this year I need to hustle!

Clearly did not finish it last year, but holding out hope for this year (2019). I have a reward system going - finish a square, cast on something that has been noodling in my brain for a while. When I finished the 6th square, I cast on a sweater, and now I alternate it with the last square. I hope to have this square done by July 1, as there is a lace shawl I want to cast on that date with some friends. I hope that is motivation to keep on going strong. That is two months away, so I think it is achievable

I DO love this yarn, and this pattern, and I think I will love the shawl, but I really do struggle with the actual knitting of it, especially the squares that start in the center.

And so it occurs to me to wonder - why do we knit some from the center out and some from the outer edges in to the center?? What would happen if all squares were knit from the outer edges into the center? I feel like it could work, and the instructions would be easier to write, I think.

If I ever knit this again, I might try that.

lucy hague, if you are reading this, why did you set it up this way? Your mind is so tuned to the details, I can tell from the way this is invented and written, so I know you have a reason… please share it!

It took 18 months, but I finished the cable section.

Decided, since my purple is a gradient, to knit the center as a gradient, not as stripes. If I change my mind when I see it, that will be easy to redo.

Also, thinking I was being good, not reading the whole pattern through, I carefully wove in my ends before starting the stockinette section. So I will have to go back and do a bit of “mending” to eliminate the gaps in the corners. That will teach me! I like to keep up with weaving my ends as I go. This is not the project for that!

7:30 am on August 24, 2019 completed all the knitting and end weaving, put it in to soak.

Ahhhhh
