After knitting Hannah and Debra a hat, I decided to make Rachael a matching hat too. Unfortunately, there was only 34 yards left. A light bulb went off and I decided to knit her a headband instead. She wears her hair up most of the time anyway, a headband is more practical for her.
Cast on multiple times, knit entire cable multiple times. Finally figured out the magic cast-on number and now have the instruction for the cable memorized!
Mods:
Cast on 10 stitches.
Slipping the first stitch of each row.
Knit 1x1 ribbing for 3 rows.
Knit in reverse stockinette until knitting measures 3” from beginning, end with right side row.
Increase row (wrong side):
Slip 1, M1, (K1, M1, P1, M1)3x, K1, M1, P2 (18 stitches)
Knit 2x2 ribbing for 5 rows.
Row 6 (WS):
(K2, P2)2x, K2tog, (P2, K2)2x (17 stitches)
Start Cables:
use only the instructions for the cables between the stitch markers on the Millie Hat pattern.
Odd rows are worked as stated in pattern.
Even rows, K the knits and P the purls.

K3, P4, K1, K2tog,P2, K3
row 22:
K2, P2, K2, P4, K2, P2, K2
row 24:
k2, p2, k2, p4, k2, p2, k2
row 25:
p2, knit as directed between the asterisks, P2
row 26 (WS):
K3, K2tog, K2, K2tog ttbl, K3 (10 stitches)
row 27 (RS):
purl across
row 28:
continue in reverse stockinette until ends meet when wrapped around your head.
Knit/purl 3 more rows.
Knit/purl 4 stitches, Bind off 2, Knit/purl 4 stitches.
Knit/purl 4 stitches, Cast on 2, Knit/purl 4 stitches.
Knit 3 rows in 1x1 ribbing. Bind off. Sew on button to reverse stockinette below the cabling.
