Notes

As of October 15th, 2013: the current squares in my possession are going to be made as a blanket for my friends Steve and Sandy. Steve has breast cancer. :(
I have 44 so far and could make 1 more square for a 5x9 blanket that would measure 45 inches by 81 inches. But I am going to attempt to make at least 5 more to make a 7x7, and if possible 19 more for 7x9 blanket.

In the “Learn to Knit” class I taught February 2012, I used a simple 8-inch square (unblocked, each measures 9-inches blocked) that can be used as a washcloth (if made in cotton), made into a pair of fingerless mitts (if 2 squares are knitted and seams sewn up the side), or sewn with other squares to make a scarf, shawl, or blanket.

After seeing how much worsted and aran weight yarn is in my stash, I decided to make a blanket out of the straggler natural fiber skeins (colorways that I had 8 oz. or less). Anything that contains acrylic will be made into hats for Halos of Hope or squares for other charities.

Photos will be taken at monthly intervals to show how many squares have been made.

Update March 30th:
The 2 teal squares in Knit Picks Comfort were sent as washcloths to a friend’s family who lost their home. <3

Codes on why I’m using certain props in the photos
US35/19mm needle - for counting to 168
yardstick - for HPKCHC posts
tape measure or rabbit(s) - for Ravellenic Games

July 27th:
Now that I have joined the HPKCHC, here’s the 1st square I have made since March… It’s for the Care of Magical Creatures July 2012 class. I used Cascade 220 Heather for this dark blue/green square.

July 28th:
For Charms July 2012, I present my “luxury yarn to me” square made out of Horstia Maulbeerseide Schurwolle in lime green that was leftover from the latest Clapotis I made for a friend.

July 29th:
For Flying July 2012, I have knitted up a cushy landing spot in case I fall off my broom. The Classic Shades yarn is soft and fluffy thanks to the acrylic content. This makes 16 squares (after donating the 2 teal ones away to be used as washcloths) so far.

July 31st:
Well, I completed 2 more squares out of the blue/green Cascade and 1 more square in some Poems Silk that was leftover from a pair of Fuzzy Feet, but forgot to post them as a class. Ah well.

August 1st:
As I was unfortunately reminded, I cannot use My Beauty because I cast on for it after May 15th (doh) which is the deadline NOT to touch a WIP. Sooo… I decided to enter Modular Relay instead. I already have met the required minimum of 5 squares so far which makes my blanket total at 18. Time to get cracking to see if I can get another 20 pumped out for Ravellenics! :D

August 12th:
All 25 squares finished! I am so excited that I medalled. :D 4 of the squares will be sent to someone who handles a “baby shower” blanket. So counting the 21 plus the other 14 (as of July 27th), I have 35 squares total for my blanket.

August 15th:
2 more squares thanks to the second Julia Geranium skein and the leftover Artyarns Supermerino. Total now is 37. There is some more Geranium that was used to start a scarf. I am hoping it is enough for a square.

September 1st:
Cast on and finished my first square for HPKCHC Fall 2012! Photo to come soon after I finish knitting up the rest of the skein as squares.

September 3rd:
The rest of the skein resulted in 5 more squares. That makes 6 squares made for the run for The Cup, and 6 for the Baby Blanket group. Woohoo! Also, I found the Julia in Geranium from that beginning scarf and frogged it. I have 48 grams in 2 partials (one is 13 grams) which should make 2 more squares. Decided to make one solid red square and to combine whatever is left with the 13 gram ball into the other leftovers. Am done with the square and I will FINALLY be able to take a photo of the already-made-so-far-squares that will be in the future blanket. Total so far: 38 squares.

October 31st:
Knitted up 4 squares for October classes -- Flying Option 2 and DADA Option 1. These dark green beauties are for the Slytherin Blankets. <3

November 30th:
2 more dark green squares for the Slytherin Baby Shower blankets: DADA November 2012 and Muggle Studies November 2012. :D

December 1st:
Go figure. I found out that I completed 4, not 2 squares in November. GAH! Updated photo of all 8 dark green Slytherin Baby Shower squares to come shortly.

January 1st, 2013:
I am in the midst of the 39th square and have decided that 48 squares may be enough as a bare minimum. If I can make up to 72 squares by July 4th, that would be a perfect size for the bedcover.

May 6th, 2013
At last count, I have 3 more in Cascade Yarns 220 Quattro Superwash in blue/indigo being submitted as part of May 2013 Detention with another Barn-Raising-Quilt blanket square and 2 washcloths.

May 29th, 2013
5 Slytherin Baby Blanket squares in Wool-Ease Cocoa finished and turned in for Quidditch Training Film 2.

May 31st, 2013
1 single square out of the last of the Cascade Yarn 220 Quattro in blue/indigo. Left overs shown next to square. Submitted as Spring 2013 May CoMC.

October 31st, 2013:
Left square submitted to Fall 2013 October Flying.
Right square submitted to Fall 2013 October Herbology.

01-27-2016

I knitted 4 more squares towards Steven’s blanket. Turning in the 3 dark yellow Julia’s and 1 brick Universal yarn for Quiddy2 Winter 2016.
