Overall Notes:
My goal was to finish this shawlette in a week. The knitting part was done on the 8th day; washing, blocking, and drying took awhile. This pattern was fun, but required concentration because of the lace pattern alternating between stockinette and reverse stockinette.
Not too crazy about the Somoko since it felt stiff while working with it -- similar to working with linen. I also am not happy about the dye fading during the wet blocking part. Not as bad as other yarns, but the first two photos of the final shawl reflect a huge difference before being washed.
If I make this again (which I most likely will) I would use at least 50% more yarn than stated in the pattern’s requirements. Mine blocked to 50-inches and it is definitely a shawlette.
Needle Info
So excited to be using ChiaoGoo Red Lace needles for the first time! These needles are AMAZING and perfect for this project.*
Pattern
Ripen is a fun and challenging knit. Because the lace patterns are in reverse stockinette to the main stockinette body, this shawl is definitely a “pay attention” to pattern not for TV or mindless group knitting, hence why I rated it as such.
Yarn Used
I actually have 114g in this Somoko cake. No worries, because to ensure I have enough yarn, I will be doing 4 Body Increases/Decreases and 5 Body repeats instead. The shawl will be slightly narrower. Looks like I will be doing some intense blocking!
