I made these 2 at a time by magic loop. I won’t do that again unless/until I invest in some better circular needles. I fought the cable the whole time and ended up with ladders along the center edges where the two socks meet, which is an issue I have never had before, even when using dpn’s. I am hoping that with laundering the stitches will even out and the ladders will be eliminated, because other than that I absolutely love these socks. The fit is fabulous, and the yarn feels very nice.
I had a little trouble doing the picot hem as instructed in the pattern. I knew exactly what I needed to do, but the execution just wasn’t happening. Every time I tried to maneuver my needle down inside to grab the next purl bump I would drop about three stitches off the other needle. This is not an issue I have ever had when working the picot hem at a cast-on edge, but maybe that’s just because I was working in the more confining space of the cuff of a sock as opposed to the brim of a hat or the hem of a garment where there is much more wiggle room. I ended up just doing a stretchy bind off and then sewing the hem. The only other change I made other than sewing the cuff hem is to use a Turkish cast-on instead of Judy’s Magic Cast-On to start.
Despite how nice the end result is, I really did not enjoy knitting with this yarn. The splitting was horrible, there were 5 (yes, count ‘em, 5) knots in one skein, and it had a tendency to get fuzzy and cling to itself, which led to lots of tangles and yarn vomit. I definitely recommend winding this yarn into a ball rather than attempting to knit from the center-pull skein. It’s soooooooo not worth the aggravation.
