Notes

I like this pattern a lot, but I made a number of changes to the pattern in order to custom-fit the gloves to the recipient.

There is no row gauge given for the pattern (just the stitch gauge), and it is actually very important since the pattern instructions alternate between working fixed numbers of rounds and set lengths of knitting. The thumb gusset is worked over a set number of rounds and then the rest of the hand is worked until a set length is obtained. Depending on your row gauge you may get a glove that fits or you may get a flipper. The pattern would be better if the length of the portion of the hand that is knit after the thumb stitches are placed on waste yarn and before separating the stitches of the pinky finger were specified rather than just the length from the cuff to the finger. That said - use your best judgement to determine how many rounds/inches to work for this part of the pattern (e.g. measure the hand that will wear it). The same logic applies to determining the lengths of the fingers and thumb.

I also reduced the number of hand rounds worked between separating the pinky stitches and the rest of the fingers from 4 to 2.

The other big adjustment I have had to make (every time) is in the number of stitches worked for each finger. They tend to be excessively roomy. I worked the number of stitches specified in the pattern for the first two rounds of each finger and then on round 3 I decreased a few stitches to make the fingers more snug. (For this particular pair it was 3 stitches for the index and ring fingers, 4 stitches for the middle finger, and 2 stitches for the pinky. For the thumb, on the two rounds where the pattern calls for a decrease of 1 stitch I decreased by 2.) Changing the total number of stitches in the finger rounds requires an adjustment to the decrease rounds at the tips.

There is one more change I made, which is purely cosmetic. I reversed the direction of the cables on one glove to make them a mirror image of the cables on the other glove.

The first picture gives the truest representation of the color of the wool. I used all but a few yards of one skein. Had I not decreased the finger stitches I probably would have needed a second skein.

I made these gloves to go with this hat and scarf set made in the same yarn.
