We had our first snowfall of the season on Sunday, and The Boy informed me the next morning that he needed mittens that came “almost to my elbows, Mom, so I can tuck in my sleeves and my wrists won’t get cold.”

While he is definitely a Hufflepuff, I happened to have 3 different wools in Gryffindor colours lying about in stash (2 solids and a hand-dyed) so I decided that any Harry Potter colours were better than none ;-)

Pattern mods:

• Cast on 36 using a tubular cast-on
• Knit ribbed cuff for many many rows, until it was long enough (36 rows, then one row knit plain)
• Started with a k2, sl2 for pattern one, and a sl1, k4 for pattern two
• Knit pattern one, pattern two, then pattern one again before the thumb
• Used waste yarn for the thumb, purling the first row on the top so that the thumb had purl rows all the way around
• Decreases: k2, k2 tog, repeat. Next row: k2tog, k1. Third Row: K2tog, draw yarn through remaining stitches
