Notes

Yarn used doubled.
Ch. 171 for 170 stitches in first row.
60 stitches each front.
4 skeins to the division for fronts and backs.
12 skeins for body of coat. I made the backs too narrow, should have been 12” for front, 11” for back. Just wasn’t paying attention. Should be fine when I put the Diva trim on.
Aside from the weird seaming which depends entirely on getting the measurements right (my screw-up), I’m liking this. Going to work the sleeves directly on the coat instead of seaming them later, see how much sleeve I can get for two skeins each. Little worried about running out of yarn here, but for once, it’s not discontinued.

The coat is basically done--using a P hook makes things go fast--but I want to add pockets if I have enough yarn and I think I want more Diva on the front edges. I’m going to find heavy duty hooks for closures buried in the Diva.

Changes I’ll definitely make next time:

• Don’t break the yarn for the armholes; just stop at the armhole, crochet back down to the hem and crochet up again. The coat is so bulky that the extra width in the armhole doesn’t matter.

• Don’t put that decrease in the hood, just keep it the same width all the way through the rows. I tried this on and looked in the mirror sideways: Ancient Elf. Not a good look.

• Make the pockets bigger if I have enough yarn. It’s a hefty coat, it needs hefty pockets.

I do like doubling the worsted weight; lots more colors to choose from than looking for super bulky. And the fluffy edging adds a lot, I think. The Diva is marvelous although it’s kind of a pain to crochet, but then just about any froufrou yarn is going to be.

This one belongs to Krissie; it’s very much her colors. Definitely will finish the black one I’m making for me. Great stash buster and terrific for winter.
