Oh my I have had SO MUCH FUN working on this project! I wish I could keep it at home with me instead of putting it up for auction.

In general here’s what I did…
1) Knit “cozy” for the pole, lots of stripes and variety in the 7”x48 “ tube, knit fully on DPNs after yet another magic loop failure
2) cast on at the botton each ear flap and worked the top piece initially like a hat. However, there is lots of shaping to make it fit the top of the meter nicely. I also made a hole for the back so that the “drive safely” metal plate still showed.
3) Split the front & back for the top third because of the round part of the meter. And, on the front, knit back and forth on each side for an inch to leave a hole for the coin turner thingy (which I’m calling one of the “monster’s” eyes…)
4) Knit the orange piece as the base for the spikes, and also shaped to leave the “expired” and time left window showing. I worked this reverse stockinette with a single row of knits in the middle.
5) Used the knit row to pick up and knit for the spikes directly. I still did them in the round, and picked up one side of the knit stitch, then the other side. I used the same shaping method as for Roar for the spikes, but added some stripes & colorwork, and varied the size.
6) Added a few “spikes on spikes” (as in the Green Eyed Monster hat), and knit an eye (also similar to Green Eyed Monster), stitched the eye to the cozy.
7) Seamed the orange piece to the “hat” piece on each side.
8) Lots of single crochet…around bottom (ear flaps) of “hat”, around opening in back, around the hole formed for front & back meter window, etc.
9) Braided tassels for bottom of flaps.
10) I-cord tail, with wire twist inside, pom pom for end.
11) Hard core blocking!

And there you go…a bit simplified but that’s about the story. I then slipped the “hat” piece over the top of the meter and voila.

12/20-better pictures coming soon!
