more things to love about BT ::

  • you can purchase a shade card from their site - it’s inexpensive and takes all the guesswork from online ordering
  • shipping is FREE if you order $100 or more (not including patterns) directly from them (which helps when you’re pinching pennies!)
  • and it’s sent PRIORITY mail with tracking ~ I got my order in 2 days :) … for free :))
  • AND a new item on the list…customer service : had skein/weight shortage issues with my BT online order for this project and yarn for another ordered at the same time (see project notes below) & contacted BT…within 2 hours I got this response:

Hello Melissa,

Thank you for your e-mail. I am very sorry that you had so many underweight skeins. I sent an e-mail reporting this to the mill to let them know. With the woolen milling 5 g is the absolute maximum loss of weight that we accept from our mill, but for all of them to be under that much is a big problem. I am so sorry for the inconvenience. We are sending you out one skein each of Blanket Fort and Camper in matching lots. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help or if you have any other questions.

All the best, Allison and the Brooklyn Tweed team

Project Notes ::

  • haven’t made our 1st Goddaughter a blanket so with her 2nd birthday just around the corner, it’s probably time ~ and I do hope that she uses it for blanket forts as well as for snuggling up with

  • plus I’ve had this queued/unqueued/queud forever so it’s a great excuse to try the pattern

  • of the 6 skeins I got for this project, 5 of them are underweight (eek) and the 6th wavers a bit below 50g on my digital scale ~ I’m missing about 14g of yarn total (about 3 full chart repeats worth of yarn) so I decided to send BT an email and see if they can do something for me… (I’ve seen much debate over Shelter in Rav forums but this is the first time I’ve had issues with it ~ I made this 19 skein Quill Blanket and most skeins were overweight with only a few being shy on yardage) ~ ETA : no issues…another skein is on the way (see above notes!!) & oddly enough this skein was heavy…almost 53g !!

  • I did only 4 rows or garter border each end since started the blanket with shortage issues

  • I highly recommend getting 7 skeins for this project, even if your gauge is spot on ~ my gauge was correct and I used 312g of yarn total (even with a smaller garter border)

  • used a long tail cast on and a loose bind off

  • unblocked : 27.5” wide x 39.5” long

  • blocked : 32.25” wide x 45” long (I blocked it a little bigger than the pattern specified to open the pattern up just a bit more)
