resources: knitty article introducing beading, gives some great info on beads and includes basic instructions for beading methods
9/17/2009: Done!! Gave it to my Mom and she loved it!
9/08/2009: Well, stuck with 13 repeats. Am now working on the edging. Have decided to add beads to the last 4 rows and not (as suggested in the pattern) to just the very last row.
8/15/2009: I have actually decided to do 14 repeats since I have the extra yarn. Project on hold until after I’m done with Chicago’s Can’t Stop the Serenity
8/07/2009: I now have 1 more skien in my possession due to a fantastic ravelry member! Now I can do a 13th repeat and then continue on to the edging! I have also bought beads for the edging.
7/03/2009: Wow. Almost done. I’m at 12 repeats and decided to start the edging rows, but looking at the amount of yarn I have left, I’m not sure it’s going to be enough! oh noes! Hopefully I can find at least 1 skien. If so, I’ll actually do the 13th repeat and then do the edging. If not, I may have to rip back that 12th repeat which would make me very sad…
6/15/2009: Progress a little slower. Took a break for a couple of weeks, but now trying to do a bit during my commute (i’m at 223 stitches across now! with about 4 or 5 more repeats to go).
I want to add beads to the finishing row, but I’m debating as to whether I should do as the pattern suggests or add more beads. My problem is that I have zero experience at beading and don’t even know what kind of bead I should be looking at. Must investigate…
05/21/2009: Making awesome progress on the shawl! I’m on the 7th repeat of the pattern!
Lesson learned: Count the stitches after knitting every pattern row. once they are counted, then knit the wrong side row.
’cause every single time I forget to count the stitches on a completed pattern row, I find that I missed a yo or something and have to tink back stitches…
Decided to frog previous attempt at a shawl, simply because I wasn’t paying close enough attention to the directions and I’m not happy with how it’s looking. Also, I’m off by a couple of stitches again. sigh
Looks like the Leaf Lace Shawl is a popular pattern and general consensus is that it is easy and I have found it to be very easy, straightforward and directions easy to follow.
May try adding the beads to the edging as suggested.
